Wolf Italian Serenade Barber Piano Concerto Berlioz Harold in Italy
The brief, rarely heard Italian Serenade of Hugo Wolf is lively and optimistic. Internationally-renowned pianist James Tocco tackles Barber's taut, polished Piano Concerto, which showcases the composer's natural inclination toward flowing, sinuous melody. Berlioz's Harold in Italy was commissioned by the illustrious virtuoso Niccoló Paganini to showcase his recently acquired Stradivarius viola. It is based loosely on Berlioz's own experiences in Italy after winning the Prix de Rome, and is considered by many to be one of his most lyrical and poetic tone-pictures. Sponsored in part by Parisi Artisan Coffee. Tickets: $58, $55, $45, $35, $25 and $18.
