Support School Music

The Kansas City Symphony at Wyandotte High School
Thursday, November 14, 2024 @ 7pm
2501 Minnesota Ave, Kansas City, KS 66109

Tickets:$5

The Kansas City Symphony performs at Wyandotte High School on Thursday, November 14 at 7pm. Join us for a 90-minute symphony concert featuring selections from Carmen, The Magic Flute, West Side Story, Phantom of the Opera and Swan Lake. All proceeds go directly to support the Wyandotte High School Orchestra program.

Through the Bill and Peggy Lyons Support School Music program, the Kansas City Symphony is able to make a gift to the community by sharing great music.  The Symphony spends the day at a school in one of our area school districts, conducting an open rehearsal and working with music students throughout the district. Symphony musicians meet with students for question-and-answer sessions, giving them an inside look at careers in music.  In the evening, the Symphony performs a public concert for the school district community. The Symphony conducts this program at no charge to the schools and all ticket proceeds are contributed to the district’s music programs.

Since its inception in 2003, the Symphony’s Support School Music program has raised more than $180,000 for 16 area school districts in Kansas and Missouri, contributing to the viability of those public school music programs and increasing awareness among nearly 20,000 residents concerning the importance of music-education programs. Although the event may transpire in a day, its impact is broad and long-lasting.

The Symphony presents a unique program valuable not only to participating school districts, but to communities as well.  The mission of the program includes the following:

1.  To bring community focus to the value and importance of school music programs.

2.  To provide schools the opportunity to raise funds specifically for the district’s music department through concert ticket sales.

3.  To expose students and communities to the Kansas City Symphony who would not likely be afforded this experience.

The Kansas City Symphony takes residency in your school district for 1-2 days, rehearsing as an ensemble, meeting with students in small group breakout sessions, and performing an open rehearsal for students, all of which culminates with an evening performance. There is no charge to the school or district for this program.

If you are interested in learning how to bring this unique program to your school district, please contact Stephanie Brimhall at sbrimhall@kcsymphony.org or (816) 219-2639 to receive an information packet.
