Acting Associate Principal Second Violin

Kristin Velicer

Kristin Velicer is the Assistant Principal Second Violinist with the Kansas City Symphony. Ms. Velicer has performed and toured internationally with numerous major orchestras including the Houston Symphony, the Minnesota Orchestra, and the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra. She has been a featured soloist with both the Kansas City Symphony and National Repertory Orchestra in Colorado and is a guest artist with the Summerfest Concert Series in Kansas City. Ms. Velicer has appeared on National Public Radio as a featured soloist and chamber musician on “Performance Today” and “Houston in Concert.” Kristin was an invited performer in the Carnegie Hall tribute to Alexander Schneider, founder of the New York String Orchestra Seminar. Ms. Velicer served on the faculty of the Rocky Mountain Summer Conservatory in Steamboat Springs, Colorado where she also performed with the Strings Festival. Additional summer festival appearances include the Sunflower Music Festival and the Blossom Music Festival. She holds a Bachelor Degree in violin performance at Oberlin College Conservatory of Music where she studied with Kathleen Winkler. While at Oberlin, she received the prestigious Conservatory Dean’s Talent Award. Kristin later received her Master’s Degree from Rice University-Shepherd School of Music, studying with Raphael Fliegel and Kathleen Winkler.

There must always be at least one container of Breyer’s ice cream in our freezer at all times.

I was on stage but was not playing. Yo-Yo Ma came to do a concert with us at the Midland and at the end turned around and performed solo Bach as a gift to a musician who was retiring. Here was a full house coming to hear Yo-Yo and in this big concert hall, he managed to create a very intimate moment. He gave this beautiful gift to our colleague and reminded us why we do what we do.
